Vessel Attacked in Gulf of Aden, British Security Firm Alerts Shipping Community

A maritime security alert was issued following an attack Sunday on a vessel in the Gulf of Aden, approximately 102 nautical miles southwest of Mukalla, Yemen, according to British security firm Ambrey. The firm urged ships in the area to remain vigilant and report any unusual activity, though the identity of the attackers remains undisclosed.

In a related incident, a missile narrowly missed a ship in the Gulf of Aden on Sunday, landing close to its port quarter but causing no damage or injuries. This event occurred 59 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni port of Aden, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported. Details regarding the missile’s origin were not provided.

These maritime threats come amid ongoing assaults on shipping routes in the Red Sea region by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi militants. These attacks, which are part of a broader support for Palestinians in the Gaza war, have significantly impacted global shipping. The disruptions have compelled shipping companies to seek alternate routes, including the longer and costlier passage around southern Africa.

In response to the threats posed by the Houthis, the United States and the United Kingdom have initiated military strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, aiming to safeguard critical maritime passages and ensure the security of international shipping lanes.
