Lebanese Army Strikes Back After Artillery Fire from Syria
The Lebanese army launched retaliatory strikes on Sunday after artillery fire from Syria hit border areas. In a statement on X, the army confirmed that its forces were responding to repeated shelling targeting Lebanese territory. Security measures have been reinforced along the border, with additional monitoring points, patrols, and checkpoints set up to prevent further attacks.
The military stated that it is closely tracking developments and will take necessary action as required. This follows an earlier announcement by the army’s Guidance Directorate on Saturday, which confirmed the deployment of military units along Lebanon’s northern and eastern borders in response to fire from Syria.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that rockets fired from Syria struck several villages in eastern Lebanon. Additionally, two Syrian drones were reportedly shot down in the border region.
Tensions along the Lebanese-Syrian border have escalated in recent days. The NNA also reported violent clashes between Lebanese clans and armed groups near Hermel, a region close to the border. The fighting has resulted in casualties, though the exact number remains unclear.
Lebanon and Syria share a long and porous border, with frequent incidents involving cross-border fire, smuggling operations, and clashes between armed factions. While the Lebanese army has sought to maintain control over these areas, ongoing instability in Syria continues to pose security challenges.
