US Justice Department and FBI Form Task Force To Investigate Hamas and Supporters
The US Justice Department and the FBI on Monday launched a new task force to investigate Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, along with possible civil rights violations and acts of antisemitism linked to the group’s supporters. The initiative, called Joint Task Force October 7 (JTF 10-7), aims to prosecute Hamas terrorists responsible for the massacre and investigate individuals or entities financing or supporting the group, including in the US.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi emphasized the task force’s commitment to securing justice for the victims. “The barbaric Hamas terrorists will not win—and there will be consequences,” Bondi said. The effort is a continuation of legal actions against Hamas leaders, including charges previously filed against Yahya Sinwar, who was later killed by Israeli forces. The new task force will take over those cases and expand its focus to dismantling Hamas’ financial networks and identifying support within the US.

We report with just one agenda: the truth.

JTF 10-7 will be led by senior Justice Department counterterrorism prosecutors, FBI officials, and intelligence analysts. FBI agents will be embedded with Israel’s National Bureau of Counter Terror Finance, strengthening collaboration between the two countries on counterterrorism efforts. The Justice Department stated that the initiative will also address antisemitism, particularly on US campuses, where some protest groups have been accused of providing material or ideological support to Hamas.
The task force’s launch follows intensified scrutiny of pro-Palestinian activism in the US, including the recent arrest of Columbia University graduate Mahmoud Khalil, a Syrian national accused of supporting Hamas. Federal immigration authorities have also investigated whether US universities have concealed illegal foreign nationals involved in anti-Israel protests.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche reaffirmed the Justice Department’s stance, stating, “Antisemitic acts of terrorism—whether here or abroad—will never go unpunished.” The initiative is part of a broader US strategy to combat terrorism financing and hold Hamas accountable for its attacks.
