Algeria Pledges Support for Gaza, Lebanon During Regional Crises
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has reiterated his strong support for the Palestinian cause during his ongoing presidential campaign, emphasizing that Algeria’s army is prepared to assist Gaza as soon as borders between Egypt and the Gaza Strip are opened. Speaking in Constantine, Tebboune declared, “We will never abandon Palestine, especially Gaza,” and promised that if access were granted by Egypt, Algeria would rapidly mobilize to help rebuild the region. He vowed to deploy the army, establish hospitals, send medical teams, and aid in reconstruction efforts within just 20 days, stating, “I made a promise, and the army is ready.”

In a separate development, Algeria has committed to supplying Lebanon with fuel to alleviate the country’s electricity crisis. After Lebanon’s state electricity company, Electricité du Liban (EDL), announced a nationwide blackout due to depleted fuel reserves, Algeria stepped in to provide fuel for Lebanon’s power plants. Lebanon has faced power shortages for decades, with EDL’s chronic losses significantly contributing to the country’s massive public debt. The Algerian government did not provide specific details on the fuel agreement but confirmed the decision to support Lebanon in its time of need.
